Music Notes from Rick: Holy Week Edition
Music of the Season
Palm Sunday is sort of a “dual day.” The service starts outside with the joyful waving of palm branches and the sound of trumpets and bells. Then there is a shift in the tone to the reading of the Passion of Jesus. The music of the service and of Holy Week reflects this change. After the Palm Sunday entrance, the organ will not be heard again until the ‘Alleluias’ at the Easter Vigil. The quiet supports the solemnity of the week and makes the pomp of Easter (this year with a brass quartet and tympani) even more glorious.
