Registration for Journey Groups Now Live
February 2, 2022
Friends,
St. Thomas Journey Groups begin soon, and I hope everyone at St. Thomas will take part. We will read together Manna and Mercy, a brief overview of the Bible - from Genesis to Revelation - as one continuous story of "God's unfolding promise to mend the entire universe." It also has fun pictures! We are reading the Old Testament portion now and the New Testament portion this fall.
Prior to each week’s session, participants will read 3-4 pages of the book and watch 1-2 short videos by South African pastor Alan Storey (a sample video is here), which form the basis for group conversations, guided by questions prepared by our Parish Theologian Denny Clark. Alan pastors an intentionally multi-racial congregation in South Africa and works to promote peace, equity, and inclusion in his country. You can read about his ministry here. I was part of a retreat with him several years ago and find his ministry and teaching inspiring.
Groups begin meeting Wednesday, February 16 - some groups inside, some outside in good weather, and some online. Meeting times vary. If Wednesdays don't work for you, consider Sunday, Tuesday, a men's group on Thursday, or propose another day and time to meet online.
Taking this journey with others is the best way to grow in faith and understanding. But for those who are not able to join a group, consider the "Individual Adventurer" option, using the same materials as the groups each week, but on your own schedule.
Journey Group participants and Individual Adventurers who want to dig deeper or follow up on issues from the previous week can do so in an optional, supplemental “Scenic Overlook” with Denny on Tuesday evenings on Zoom. Those sessions will also be recorded and available on our website.
Books will be available in the narthex this Sunday. If you'd like to make a $10 donation to cover the cost of a book for yourself or others, you are welcome to do so here or in the offering plate on Sunday. Mark your gift for "Adult Formation." However, a donation is neither required nor expected.
Please sign up here and invite others to join you. Some have asked if this opportunity is only open to members of St. Thomas and the answer is no! We do want everyone to be part of the journey! If you need help putting the puzzle of the Bible together in new ways, and if you want to connect with others who are on the same journey, this is for you!
Blessings,
Grace
