Wednesday Word from Rev. Darius
“You are a pastor, right? pray for me then.” These were the words of Tom, a young man who have had some health challenges for a couple of years. I met Tom in my recent visit to Dodoma, Tanzania. I must confess that I didn’t feel like praying when I met Tom, I had many excuses of why I should’ve not prayed, good excuses too! But with God’s help I prayed with Tom and his mother and God ministered to Tom in ways that surprised me. You prayed for me when it seemed like I might not have come back, and surprise! I am back! Thanks be to God.
We are people of the covenant. God calls us to do many things in his kingdom, may we get the grace to let him work in us, and through us, so we can be presently surprised! In our baptismal covenant we are invited to respond to God’s initiatives for his work among us, we are invited to say, “we will with God’s help”. We might not feel like praying, we might not even believe in it, but, as I was humbly reminded,
God works despite our moods and views. May God give us the grace to say, “I will do this with your help”, so that his work among us and through us can be done. “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. (Romans 8:26)
