Wednesday Word from Rev. Grace: Journey Groups Begin Soon!
Friends -
Last year around this time, we started an experiment. We were all set to return to our usual Wednesday night pattern of dinner followed by formation for all ages and choir practice. We envisioned gathering adults around dinner tables in the parish hall to discuss a curriculum we were very excited about. Then the Delta variant hit, and it no longer seemed wise to put dozens of people in the same room for a meal and discussion.
Rather than cancel the program entirely, Denny came up with a great idea. He could record a session on video, and small groups could meet on their own to discuss it. Rather than meet as one large group, we could meet in small groups. That's how Journey Groups were born.
Our third season of Journey Groups begins in two weeks, starting on September 7 through November. We are continuing the study we began in the last season - a summary of the whole Bible called Manna and Mercy, with brief inspiring videos by South African pastor Alan Storey. We turn now to the chapters on Jesus and the church. Groups will meet in person or online on Wednesdays at 6:30 and on Sundays at 4. Group members will read a portion of Manna and Mercy each week and then gather to watch the video and discuss it.
Manna and Mercy was a faith-changing book for me. The author and illustrator, Daniel Erlander, sees the whole Bible as the story of how God is working to restore and heal all creation. We, as followers of the way of Jesus, get to be part of that hope-filled work. That is what we are seeking to do together as St. Thomas.
Sign up here or in your ministry sign up form. I hope you'll join the journey.
Blessings!
