Wednesday Word: The earth and everything in it
The Feast of St. Francis is next Tuesday, October 4. St. Francis demonstrated that one of the ways we can follow Jesus is by caring for the earth and all God's creatures.
As it happens, our city scheduled a community-wide clean up this Saturday. What a great way to celebrate St. Francis Day! We offered to help clean up Lake Bottom Park. We are looking for at least 20 people to help out from 8:30 to 11:30 on Saturday. We'll meet at the red square stage at 8:30. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants and a St. Thomas t-shirt if you have one. A hat, sunscreen, and gloves are recommended. Bring water. Trash bags will be provided. We will pick up trash around the park and keep a tally of the kinds of trash we found and the amount we collected.
Please sign up here. All ages welcome. Let us know if you need documentation for school service hours or scout badges.
We'll also celebrate St. Francis Day with our annual Pet Blessings this Saturday at 4 at (a cleaned-up!) Lake Bottom Park, followed by a concert by Donna Dooley and friends, with a drive up option on Sunday from 1 to 2 under the Day School awning at St. Thomas. The Sunday event will take place rain or shine. If weather forces any changes on Saturday, we'll let you know.
The earth and everything on it is beloved of God. We get to put this hope into action this weekend!
Blessings,
Grace
